THE PRINCE GEORGE GALITZINE MEMORIAL FUND
George Galitzine died in 1992. In his memory, and through the generosity of his many friends, the Prince George Galitzine Library was established in St Petersburg in the house formally belonging to his mother. Its objectives were, and still are, to create a fund of books about Russia that have been published abroad - many of which were totally inaccessible during Communist years. Its volumes range from a first edition of Pasternak’s Dr Zhivago to the Encyclopaedia Britannica. 15 years down the line, it remains a unique institution and is now also considered a cultural centre, recognised and honoured by the city council and the Ministry of Culture in Moscow. www.galitzinelibrary.ru
